How much do you charge for a tattoo?

The minimum charge is $150. Small tattoos will be given a flat rate quote based on the artwork. Tattoos that take longer than two hours will be charged for according to the hourly rate of $175/hr. HST is always added to the grand total.

Do I need to book an appointment to get tattooed?

It is best to prearrange an appointment to guarantee adequate time is reserved to complete your tattoo. Walk-ins or same-day appointments are sometimes available depending on the complexity of the tattoo. Appointments are made by contacting the artist directly via email. kiftattoos@gmail.com

Do I need a consultation?

Free in-person consultations are always available. Sometimes they are recommended. You can arrange an in-person consultation via email. Alternatively, it is often possible to discuss all of the necessary information through email or over the phone.

Does it cost extra to have the design drawn beforehand?

It does not cost extra for the drawing. The drawing will be reviewed for the first time on the day of your appointment. It is important that any potential changes to the artwork be discussed in person. Revisions can most likely be made on the spot while both artist and client are present with enough time to still tattoo that day. Copies of the drawing are not sent to the client ahead of time so it is important to thoroughly discuss the details of the design during the consultation process.

How old do you have to be to get a tattoo?

The minimum age requirement is 18 years of age. We do not tattoo anybody under 18.

What should I do before getting tattooed?

The best thing to do before your appointment is to get a good night’s sleep, have a decent meal before coming in and wear something that will comfortably allow access to the area being tattooed. That’s all you really need. Drugs and alcohol are not recommended to be used prior to getting tattooed.

Do I have to shave the area where the tattoo is going?

You are not required to shave the area. In fact it is probably beneficial for the artist to shave the area during the procedure. This limits the potential for the skin to become irritated before the tattooing begins.

Can I get tattooed on tanned skin?

Avoid getting tattooed on recently tanned on sunburned skin as it is known to affect the quality of the tattoo. The sun will also damage any existing tattoos no matter how old they are. It’s important to protect your tattoos with sun screen anytime they are exposed to the sun or a tanning bed.

Can I used numbing cream?

There are several reasons why it is not ideal to tattoo on skin treated with numbing cream. Be sure to consult your artist regarding numbing products before using them. Generally they are not recommend, especially for large tattoos.

Can you get tattooed if you are pregnant or breastfeeding?

There is an inherent risk associated with getting tattooed during pregnancy or breastfeeding and therefore we very strongly discourage doing so.

Do you do cover ups?

Yes. Cover ups are common in our business but they do come with a unique set of restrictions. A cover up tattoo will almost always be larger than the tattoo it is covering. Dark colours such as black, purple, blue and green will tend to have greater potential to cover an existing tattoo. Successful cover up tattoos usually include elements such as bold outlines, strong shading, colour, background, and organic textures. Certain things that normally don’t allow for a successful cover up include flat graphic colours, black and grey, or faces both human and animal. A cover will most likely require an in-person consultation prior to the design process.

Can tattoos get infected?

A fresh tattoo is just like a cut or scrape. The skin has been broken and therefore is susceptible to infection if not kept clean and free of bacteria. Always avoid touching your new tattoo with anything but freshly washed hands. Strict measures are always in place to ensure that you will never contract an infection at the studio. Still, you are vulnerable to infection throughout the duration of the healing process. Always carefully follow the aftercare instruction and don’t hesitate to ask your artist if you have a questions along the way.

Are touch ups free?

Touch ups are free up to 6 months after the tattoo. A touch up is advised if the tattoo shows signs of a bad healing experience. For example, sometimes a small piece of colour or linework can fall out if a scab is pulled off during healing. Making adjustmenst or additions or changing the colour of the tattoo would not qualify as a free touch up.
